Rigorous Safety Standards
Comprehensive Weight Testing
At Austin Dock & Tram, our commitment to safety is unwavering, which is why we implement stringent weight tests on all our tram and elevator systems. Leveraging 25 years of flawless safety records, we conduct tests that simulate conditions far beyond typical usage, adhering to ASME A.17.1 Elevator codes. This rigorous testing ensures that every system is equipped to handle emergencies with reliability, giving you peace of mind for the safety and well-being of your loved ones.
For the past 25 years, Austin Dock & Tram has proudly maintained an injury-free safety record for our tram and elevator systems, and we are committed to continuing this trend. It’s important to recognize that trams share many similarities with vertical elevators found in high-rises, skyscrapers, and private residences across the country. Some of the hillsides our trams traverse have vertical elevations exceeding 200 feet, equivalent to more than 20 stories. Our trams are equipped with a centrifugal governor and safety brake system designed to automatically lock the tram car to the tracks in case of overspeed caused by a cable break or other mechanical failure. These brakes undergo calibration during each annual service, meeting the stringent standards outlined in ASME A.17.1 Elevator codes, which mandate a 130% overload of the advertised capacity to test emergency braking systems. We strongly advise our clients to consider this additional layer of safety for themselves and their loved ones.
